Dermal Fillers

Typically, as we age, wrinkles and lines start to form. In addition, the shape of your face can become thinner or develop dark shading or lines that make you look tired even when you’re not.

Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Renee Comizio recommends dermal fillers for patients who want to:

  • Restore lost volume.
  • Add contour to their facial features.
  • Enhance their natural features.

Dr. Comizio was rated one of the top doctors in New Jersey, providing procedures to help patients in the Morristown, New Jersey area achieve their desired look.

How Do Dermal Fillers Work?

Dermal fillers replenish the volume lost as you age, for a refreshed and youthful result. Patients of any age can also benefit from the ability of dermal fillers to add new contour and definition to their faces or enhance lips and cheeks. Dermal fillers are a non-surgical way for patients to halt the aging process by replacing lost volume:

  • Around the nose
  • In the corners of the mouth
  • On the cheeks
  • Around the jawline

More than adding to what’s been lost, dermal fillers can also shape new facial contours.

What Happens During Treatment?

After Dr. Comizio discusses the possibilities for treatment and the results you want to achieve, she will evaluate the amount of dermal fillers needed to attain your new look. By adding filler, your results will take shape immediately. You may experience swelling and bruising. Dr. Comizio recommends being off vitamins, supplements, and NSAIDs for two weeks prior to treatment to minimize the risk of bruising.

During this procedure, you may feel some discomfort. Some areas are more sensitive than others. Some patients require topical anesthesia prior to treatment. A typical treatment will take between twenty minutes up to an hour to complete.

Are There Any Side Effects?

Dermal fillers typically have minor side effects, especially when compared to plastic surgery procedures such as a facelift. Patients should expect some degree of swelling after the treatment. Ice can be applied to minimize swelling. Bruising is also possible, and some areas are more prone to bruising than others. There should be no discomfort after the procedure. Return to exercise is typically allowed the day after treatment. Wearing makeup is okay right after treatment.

How Long Before I See Results?

Dermal fillers are fast-acting mediators of non-surgical facial rejuvenation. You will notice a difference instantly and the results will continue to improve until about two weeks after treatment.

Are Dermal Fillers Permanent?

Dermal fillers are temporary non-surgical procedures that last anywhere from six to twenty-four months, depending on how your body reacts to treatment. Like Botox, fillers are naturally eliminated by your body over time, and you can maintain your appearance by periodically coming in for treatment.

Dr. Comizio recommends dermal fillers as a way for patients to keep a youthful appearance without going through the weeks of pain and recovery needed for a facelift.

How Often Should I Get Treatment?

Each patient has a different threshold for repeating treatment. Some patients will want to return for a touch up twice a year while others will only come in every other year. Dr. Comizio recommends discussing your goals for treatment during your initial treatment so that she can help you maintain your results.
